How I Keep Things Organized at Home

This post is sponsored by Pop N Store
but opinions about their product are completely mine!

I've been busy around here, working on our RV and updating it, working on blog posts in my office, helping my kids deal with keeping their rooms and school supplies organized, preparing for a disaster, and much more! I've got so many projects always going on and can't wait to show you everything...

Hide that Ugly Thing

Am I the only one who finds some technology offensively ugly? I mean, the cables, the cords, the antennas, the routers, the boxes? Uggh, it's just ugly!  In our family room, we have this router that has to be there. I know, it's something that just comes from technology so I try to embrace it and know it's here to stay.

Left-over Food Container Organizing

Plastic food storage containers are used daily in my home because they are lightweight, and inexpensive.  Besides holding leftover food the containers are handy for organizing craft supplies, school/office supplies and as dividers in junk drawers.

How Do You Organize Light Bulbs?

Am I the only person who struggles trying to keep my lightbulbs in a somewhat organized manner? I mean, they are a mess. You feel obligated to keep them in the most odd shaped boxes and containers and then they just spill out all over the place, right? At least, that's what I've experienced.

Scooter Stand Organizer

We have a problem with scooters. We only have two children, but we have six scooters. That's on purpose because I like to keep a big supply of them here for all the kids we have over to play at our house -- and I got a GREAT deal on them on Black Friday a couple months ago. So, the problem: keeping the scooters organized, standing up, and from driving us nuts in the garage.

Dorm Room vs. small spaces organizing

I'm going to subject you to my past...my college dorm room! I think college is when I first started getting myself really organized. I only found a couple of pictures but the first one is my "first" college dorm room. I was 18 and lived in this apartment-type open room where there were five of us packed into the room. So, this was my "wall" of where I claimed to keep organized!

For the love of organizing!

Sometimes I just have to share the times when I find simple organizing so much fun - for the pure love of organizing!

So, this simple and easy tidbit is purely for my own enjoyment - that I hope to spread to you! I bought the above containers at Ikea. It's a pack of six different storage boxes and they come in a flat pack like this.

Pretty neat, huh? I like that they have zippers to zip them up!

I was inspired when I was at my friend, Nicole's, house and her girls' drawers were full of them. {see above}

OK...so, in my excitement I decided to use them in my daughter's drawers in her closet. Remember this Elfa drawer system?

Well, it works great, but it needed a little tweaking! Her pants look nice when I placed them in the drawer, but as soon as she would take out the one on the bottom {kind of like the shirt dilemma} the stack was a mess! So, here's what I did!

First I took her pants and folded them in thirds. I do this in my own closet drawers and my hubby's closet too.

But, it didn't work in the storage boxes right. So, I tried folding them in quarters and that way worked just how I imagined it!

Now they are stacked nicely for her to pull out {without messing up the rest of the pants}, and look at all that room left in the drawer!!

I also organized her pajamas and swimsuit drawer - yes, it's a weird combination of clothing in one drawer, but it works for her! Well, that's it for the fun! Hope you are inspired...have you had any fun organizing a drawer lately?

Picking my organizing brain!

My friends like to pick my brain whenever I'm over at their homes.  They "casually" mention that they just can't seem to come up with anything to organize a certain space, then take me in and show me the dilemma.  Well, I DO love to solve a good organizing dilemma and so that always gets me thinking how we can make this work for them.

Super trick for headbands

So...I had a reader who recently asked me about organizing her headbands.  I dug around and found THIS great blog with a super cute way to make your own headband organizer!  Check out it!

She first took an empty oatmeal container and some Modgpodge and two pieces of pretty 12 x 12 paper.

Another great idea

Do you have any of those clear organizing bins around your house?  They are great, but you can see all your junk in them!  Here is a great idea from a blog called "Oh, Brooke" that I saw:

She just took paper scraps of scrap booking paper and cut them in half and double-stick tape inside.  I would only add one thing...yep, a label!  You could make a really pretty label on the computer and place inside the drawer centered in front of the paper.  Where could you do this idea?

Organizing Meals for a friend in need

One super important thing we needed to do for one another is to take care of each other!  I love how great our church is at bringing meals and helping others when needed.  One great website I have recently discovered is Take Them a Meal where it makes organizing a meal for someone VERY easy.  In the past, I would organize meals for a friend by sending out emails and dates and going back and forth between everyone trying to pick dates.  Then, I'd send out another email to remind them, etc.  Well, the website Take them a Meal is so easy because it takes them directly to where you set up the days and then your friends can sign up directly for a specific day, they can even put what they will bring, then the website sends them an automatic email reminder to bring their meal.  You can even put what not to bring or any other details about the meal in there!  A super great website that I highly recommend!
