Bedroom Closet Clean up (part 2)

So, I had a little excursion to my favorite store!  Yep, The Container Store.  It's a world of organizing bins and systems and gadgets....my dream!  I went there because I'm honestly having a little dilemma in my husband's closet and wanted to see if I could solve the dilemma.

You see, my husband has a LOT of clothes!  Yes, more than me.  He is not so willing to part with very many, since most of them are new - he gets a LOT of free golf shirts and new golf shirts every business trip he takes.

So, I wanted to please my hubby. Yep, I did!  I did a little hanger research and found that there are these incredible hangers called "huggable" hangers.  You can also find a similar product at Amazon.  They are SUPER thin and have a velvet covering on them - and a nice shape, I might add - and are only $1 each! Plus, your pants and shirts don't slide off of them - he likes that part. So, here is my hubby's closet before (above).  I have wood hangers - which I absolutely LOVE!  But, they are just too thick and he's just not fitting all his clothes on them. Don't worry, I'm going to use the wood hangers somewhere else, and what's left will be going to my free-cycler friends! Anyway...

But, at The Container Store, there were tons and tons of hangers to choose from - seriously, look at them all!

If you can't afford to change out all your hangers at one time, do it little by little.  It's a great idea if you have a small closet and not so much room to look into a hanger like this.  Here is what I did.  I was able to move about ten (maybe more) shirts up to the top row of the closet and there is a ton more room now on the bottom for more.

Now see how much more room I have,
just with using different hangers.

I challenge you when working on your closet to clear out as much as possible.  Organize your shirts and pants by color - it's so much easier to find your shirt.  I know some that organize by sleeve length or season - that's great too!  Do whatever helps.  Look at this closet, my husband has nearly 90 shirts, jackets, or pants in this small space! But, it's still neat and organized! By the way, my hubby is quite happy.  He's a man of few words, but he said "Thanks, it's nice!"  Translation, he's very happy! And...the closet organizing will continue, so keep those comments and ideas coming!

  1. I have a really small closet and it's hard to get everything I want to fit in there. Plus, I have WAY too many shoes! Love the hanger idea, though!

  4. Wow! I cannot believe that hangers made that much of a difference in closet space. I love those hangers. And only a dollar each is very affordable.

  7. We have many of these hangers as well. They are really good for women's tank tops or those silkie blouses which will slide off every other type of hanger...even the wooden ones. Plus, as you said, they take up much less room.
