31 Days of Spontaneous Organizing - Day #18: Family/Living Room {surfaces and toys}

Today is Day #18 of 31 days of spontaneous organizing! Another day to work on your family or living room getting the surfaces and toys cleaned up!

Our family room is our most loved and used room in our home, other than our kitchen. We all live, hang out, craft, play games, and have so many memories in that room as a family. It's also a very personal room with my gallery wall of photos and pictures.

These are all ideas to help you get those spaces in your family/living room cleaned up. If you have a play room, you can use this chance to clean that up instead or also. But, let's not spend too long. Throw all paper away that isn't important, move out whatever doesn't belong in this room - kids need to put away their things daily - and be sure to check under your couch and in the couch cushions for "surprises" that may be there!

We have the kids' computer station in our family room - as we believe it's important to keep their internet activity out in the open for all to see.  So if you have a place set up in this room for that, be sure to get the surface as cleared up as possible.

We also have a craft table in this large room. I told you we do everything in this room! If you have a large family room, it's great to break it up into zones for doing activities and it also helps keep some of the messes away - however, the craft table can be a little messy at times, so we have to have some rules about putting things away every night.

More ideas for you are to use simple baskets under the coffee table to corral messes.

Or, if you have a sofa table you can set your large baskets underneath that, too.

I also have a large basket to hold blankets for when it's colder.

The last part you have to deal with is your coffee table, right? I don't have a coffee table in here, but this is a great example of corralling the things you use in there. Keep the stuff on the coffee table to a minimum. It's not a museum in there, it's a place to relax so keep that in mind and keep very little on your coffee table.
