Spring Cleaning the Easy Way

The Spring Cleaning Tips are all mine!

Spring Cleaning is one of those phrases that I tend to avoid. Well, cleaning is something I tend to avoid but spring cleaning seems sort of like a phrase that everyone is supposed to just do and that's that! If you've ever been in a "spring cleaning" kind of mood, it's your chance to really open your eyes and see your home in a fresh, new way!

I'd also like to note that a wonderful part of spring "cleaning" can and should include spring decluttering! When you start to look around your home, move things to clean behind, or open the blinds you may notice more than just dust and dirt.

5 Reasons Why Your Kids Need to Do Their Own Laundry

I am absolutely in favor of kids doing their own laundry. Let's be real, at a certain age they are totally able to handle it! But, I've also received some criticism or excuses why it's too much for kids to do. In our house, starting at age 10, my kids are expected to do their own laundry. They are each assigned a day of the week to do it. I have my own "laundry day" and they have theirs. Here are five reasons why your kids need to do their own laundry, too:

Let Them Struggle a Bit

Yesterday was SIX years since I first started this blog. On May 26, 2010, I decided to give it a try. I'm somewhat amazed at what it's turned into!

Today we're going to chat a little bit about parenting and organizing. Why? I have just noticed something going on whenever I read online - what is it? Parents who are afraid to let their kids struggle, to feel pain, to have disappointing days, to get out and experience things. Now, this is mostly my observations and opinions so you may completely disagree with me here, but I grew up experiencing disappointment, having to struggle, earn my way, and feeling pain. Some children, sadly, experience far more than others and I'm not talking about those. I'm dealing with organizing - yep, organizing, of course!

Today, I'm so excited to bring you a guest post from a sweet lady. Mary is a professional organizer and mother of four. She loves to organize, create, decorate and then blog about it at MaryOrganizes. Mary doesn't chase after perfection, her goals are a healthy home and happy life. She has amazing organizing skills and is here to help me out with all my back and forth traveling I've been doing. Now..let's handle that paper clutter before it controls us!

If paper is your problem, you are not alone!

Laundry and Paper are the monsters of homemaking and are more similar than you realize. A good strategy for laundry maintenance can teach you a lot about how to solve your paper problem. Your dirty clothes go in a hamper until its time to wash it. It would be a waste of time and energy to wash each piece of laundry one at a time as it becomes dirty. I use my inbox as my paper hamper and I save time dealing similar types of papers (or loads) at the same time.

Organizing: Tips to know where to start

Last week I told you all about my trip to Atlanta. But, part of my trip there included a two night stay with a dear friend of mine - FYI: I was a high school leader at our church years ago and she was one of "my high school girls" in my small group I led and has now grown up and is married with her own little family! I digress...anyway, she recently moved to Atlanta and I wanted to visit her before my conference started and so I flew with her {she was back in my neck of the woods visiting family} and her little toddler boy back to Atlanta. They moved into a small apartment a few months ago and she had a few spots in her small place that she simply wasn't sure where to start. So, I taught her some basic tips and we organized her laundry and pantry room.
