My home office has been an important part of my blog, as I have used it daily to sit and write posts, edit photographs, make phone calls, return emails, and set up anything and everything blog related, etc. But, it's also become my "other" business place to store all kinds of information about essential oils, product guides, mailing packets, and much more. So, my amazing home office seems to just not be doing it anymore.
Here is my office "before"{both before and the after before} -- I redid it three years ago. I love it. It has functioned well and looked great. I didn't want to work in an office that was boring or ugly. The desk, though, has been a thorn in my side for awhile. I painted the beast to help it look nice. But, I just don't like "hutch" part of it. It made me feel closed in. I also had no where to put my printer {also a beast} and paper shredder. So, my hubby made a printer stand out of two shelving units I got at Target for very little money.
I will reveal my finished home office next week - once everything is completely done and the pictures have been taken. But, I wanted to give you a look at some of the prep that has been going on to get it ready. I shared with you last month how I planned to decorate and update the desk area.
The first thing I wanted for my office was a REAL accent on the wall. I didn't want to repaint my office - I love the colors in there. But, the one wall just needed to pop. If you've gotten to know my style at all through my blog, it's definitely my love to have bold patterns and colors mixed in with neutrals. I have no idea what style that is called...I've sort of evolved through the years the older I get and my "Pinterest-ized" I've become and it's turned into my own style. So, I found this fabulous adhesive, repositionable wallpaper on Etsy that you could custom color. Wow! It was perfect!
Well, I spent days and days putting together all the furniture for my desk, too. Before I put Ikea furniture together, I set out ALL the parts and organize them so I can count to be sure there aren't any missing pieces.
The Galant printer cabinet is perfect for what I want it to do, but it doesn't exactly "go" with the rest of the Ikea furniture I put in my office. I think I can make it look amazing, still!
I also had to put together three of the Alex drawer units together. I did it over a few days since I did it in between other things - like work and making dinner and taking care of my family!
But, I did it..I got them all done! Well worth it. I want to make a note that my Alex cabinet is not actually listed on the website for Ikea - because this unit has a filing drawer on the bottom. I had to go in to the store and I found it, but not in white. Then, asked a sales associate and found out they had them in stock in white. So, if you're looking for the exact one I have, you won't find it online - at least I couldn't!
One of the other things we found out was that the Alex series is slightly shorter than the Galant series cabinet. We are using a counter that rests on top of the whole set of cabinets so they all have to be the same level. So my hubby has come up with his own way of making them level. He did a great job. You can't even tell that they are higher from the front. We also added felt to the bottoms of all the cabinets since my office has wood floors.
Last I'll share the chair I found just a few days ago...well, I didn't "find" it. I actually got it FREE off my church recycle group...I've done a little work to it and it looks amazing. I love the yellow cushion color and the style. So, soon...soon you'll see the whole office all finished up and looking amazing! More amazing than my last office update! Are you as excited as I am?

I am excited! That wallpaper pattern and color is beautiful! Can't wait to see how it all comes together, I may have to borrow some of your ideas for a redo of my own.
