Christmas busyness and organizing a party!!

 OK...so this is not particularly a PROJECT around my house, but this is what I've been up to lately.  It's Christmas and we are a party house....if you know us, you've probably been to our house a dozen times for some kind of church fellowship or party of some sort!  We have had hundreds and hundreds of people in our backyard, especially!  We love it - wouldn't have it any other way!

Our middle and high school group puts on a progressive dinner each year {for the last three years} and we've had the privilege of being the "Nativity" house for the last three years.  They set up a big wooden nativity and the teens act out the Christmas story - and it's really fun!  I only took a few pictures while out there watching them perform.  I wanted to show you our deck when it's all "Christmased" out, too!

Organizing this stuff?  Well, let's just say that my hubby and I have done it so much that it just isn't hard for us.  The kids, of course, have a list of things to help out with before we have our parties here.  My hubby and I run around preparing things.  In this case, we literally have a garage loaded with 40 chairs, 5 or 6 tables, and 5 outdoor heaters {well, only 3 or 4 actually work}.  We have our outdoor fireplace to keep our visitors warm and I like to put out throw blankets on the couch for them to cozy up with, if necessary.

{From 2007 - my kids look so little!}

When you get ready for a party or time of fellowship with friends a good thing to keep in mind is what will make THEM comfortable and feel welcomed.  That's what I try to constantly be aware of.  A good idea is to have most of your items ahead of time.  I have a large basket that I keep in the pantry that holds all my paper goods.  Anytime we have people over, I just grab and go.  Before a large party, I'm able to re-stock it and then set it out.  Makes setting up easier.

I also have my kids help me out as much as possible.  Our ministry is serving others and this really helps them to learn to think of others first.  We all pitch in and everything ends up smooth!  We have a couple more parties at our house this Christmas season....how about you?

If you haven't had a chance, check out the deck project to see how our deck was built {by my awesome hubby}!
