Weekend Project: Laundry Room Skirted sink

Here is a great project that I did on our ugly basement utility sink.  I was inspired recently by THIS blog on laundry room inspirations and noticed all the sinks with their pretty skirts!  This was my laundry room sink - pretty ugly!  I have to be careful because my husband's workshop is in this basement along with my laundry area - and it's not quite as beautiful as the laundry rooms in that blog, but I'm working on getting it looking a little more pleasant to do my laundry down there.

Sink before

My mom is a wonderful seamstress and I told her just what I wanted and sent her the same inspiration pictures as above in the blog.  She's amazing and said she could make something, just pick the fabric and give her the dimensions!  So, when she came for her visit we got the sink ready.  She sewed velcro onto the skirt and then we took this AWESOME glue - Gorilla Glue - and used it to stick the other side of the velcro to the concrete sink.  Seriously, this stuff fixes just about anything!
The best glue ever!

Let me say that you need to actually read the directions on the glue first - our mistake!  I just went off of what I watched my husband do - this stuff expands, I do know that.  But, you have to put the glue on the surface and let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then stick the pieces together. If you do it right, you won't need tape to hold up the velcro!
Taped up, but still worked!

It dried in about 2 hours and was totally not going anywhere!  So, we took the skirt and velcro'ed it to the sink! And here is the amazing result....

So, my laundry room has a long ways to go to be quite so inspiring as the ones I was looking at, but it's a small start!  It's more colorful without looking too feminine!  I can still bathe the dog in the sink without a problem and scrub up paint brushes and all that fun stuff that utility sinks are made for!

  1. I just found your blog because I love to organize too. Thanks for reminding us to start small. The insides of my kitchen cabinets are all over the counter right now while I am trying to make lunch. I don't think that is starting small! Next time!

Also, I love the fabric you picked, so fun!

  2. It's a nice reminder that when you see the "perfect" room that you don't have to feel overwhelmed, but instead inspired! It's amazing how doing a little bit at a time really makes a difference & before you know it the room is done! Great Job! KLB
