Let's get started! First of all, open up your linen closet - or the area you keep your towels, sheets, blankets, and extra bath essentials. How does it look? Are there piles of sheets and towels falling over? Is there any type of organization?
Start with looking at your sheets. If you have a half dozen kids and beds or more...than you can have lots of sheets! However, if you are among the average family with 2-3 kids, then you need to make sure you don't have too much! You really only need one set of sheets per bed, possibly a second set (depending on how big your linen closet is). Honestly, I have one set for the master bed because we have a VERY thick mattress and the sheets to fit them were so expensive, so I just take them off, wash them, and put them right back on! With kids, it's always good to have an extra set, just in case of the middle of the night accidents. But, if all your kids have full sized or twin sized beds, only keep one extra set for all the beds at most!
Get rid of any sheets that are ripped, smelly (even after washing), stained (eww!), or just really old! Use them for drop cloths when you're painting, so put them in the garage! If you have a set of full sized sheets and no bed that size - umm, get rid of them! If they are in good condition you can donate them, otherwise - drop cloths!
So, what does your closet look like? Feel free to take a picture of your linen closet and post it on our Facebook page. Maybe we can help you get it organized, too!

Becky-
ReplyDeleteIt is so funny that you are doing this series! I just told me husband how I HAVE to clean out our linen closet. It looks hideous! Sheets everywhere, mixed with towels and even Christmas tablecloths. I will definitely be following and can hopefully make some great progress with your help!

Love your tips! I WISH I had a linen closet!!!
ReplyDeleteYou must live in a warm climate. Where I live, everyone has a set of flannel or microloft sheets for the bed during the winter! And of course you need more blankets on the bed in the winter than in the summer. This all conspires to make for a very full linen closet during the summer months.
ReplyDeleteThe other day I was wondering as to what all should go in the linen closet. And lo! Today I found your blog about it. Thanks a lot!! Loved to read the full series. I have one suggestion for your website - Please keep the archives of your blogs handy (may be on the right hand side). Otherwise these kind of blogs are not easy to find.. Once again!! Love your blog site!! Keep up the work !
