Kitchen projects - our new vintage oven

We began this "spontaneous" kitchen update (although we'd sort of planned out what we'd do for the last four years) and didn't give much thought to the fact that everything would be changed.  We really need to gut our kitchen and start new, but without the money for a $50,000 kitchen in the bank that's just not possible!  Fortunately, I had begun saving up for my $50K kitchen remodel two years ago and had saved $1200!  (Oooh, I know...big money for a kitchen!).  Well, we have that much to make over this kitchen, so here's our somewhat not-so-organized attempt. Although, I have begun to organize as much as I possibly can in the chaos.   I have to say, first of all, that I have a superbly, wonderful, handy hubby!  He can fix just about anything, as you'll be seeing in the next few weeks (I'm hoping not months)...

Here is our "new" oven!  We scored on this baby, only $450 off of Craig's list for a vintage Wedgwood, four burner, griddle in the middle, double oven, double broiler!  It's in super shape....(these can run from $800-1000 for one in excellent condition).  Plus, we realized that we can actually have a double oven in the same space as our old tiny oven (minus a couple of small counter areas) and switch over to gas, since I currently have electric (not a fan).

However....it is REALLY dirty!  I mean, REALLY!  I spent about three days straight for about four hours each day, plus I had my hubby's grandma helping me - she is a WORK horse!  She can scrub like nobody's business!  See all the dirt and grease and grime - there was layer upon layer upon layer of grease in this oven.  (See my grease bucket).

Once I get out of the grease and grime, I'll post more pictures of how the kitchen is going and motivate you some more!

  1. That is a great find and worth the elbow grease. Can't wait to see it in place.

  2. I love this stove. I bought a vintage stove as well, but we never ended up using it. I think at the time we were just moving in to our new house and hubby didn't feel like hard wiring it. It also needed a door hinge that we just couldn't find anymore. Great job on the oven...I am following now so I'll be staying tuned to see what comes of it. I can't wait!

  5. I'm so happy for you! I love this stove! I have a vintage stove, no griddle, but a pie oven and larger oven. I sold one like yours 20 years ago. I wish I had kept it! I bought mine about 15 years ago for $50.00 So I am amazed at these prices! I bought my daughter a vintage stove off Craig list this week for $75.00 no griddle, I need to go take a better look at hers. lol Have fun in your kitchen! I red did mine, using Hoosiers, old metal cabinet to hold my mike, and tin pie safe and two glass ones. I love my Vintage Kitchen. I do hope to show it soon! Let me know when you get yours finished, I would love to see pictures. Please stop by and leave me a comment when you post your kitchen. I would just love it!
