I recently read this quote from Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, "I choose a lazy person to do a hard job because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it". This quote is so interesting to me. While I don't feel I'm "lazy", I do feel like I'm always looking for an easier way to do things - faking them! I'm also the type of person who is artistic, but I'm definitely NOT an artist! So, this may describe much of what I do with organizing, cleaning, and decorating - faking it and lazy! But, I'm the type of person who is going to find the easiest and best way to do something. So, is this a bad quality?
For instance, my most popular series I've done "How to Have a Fake Immaculate Home" which includes my most popular post EVER "15-20 Minutes a Day of Cleaning" post tells me that YOU also want to learn the fastest and easiest way of doing things. Am I right?
But, one of the things I think is most wonderful about Pinterest, blogs, and the like are that we reveal how fake/lazy way of doing things to each other. It never occurred to me, before I began blogging, that I found a clever way of doing things. I was just being lazy - well, honestly I hope I was really being clever.
I LIKE having a clean house. But, I don't LIKE having to clean it! So, the resolution I found was to fake it. I like my house to be clutter free, but I don't really want to spend the time dealing with it. So, I fake it {which is really that I get rid of stuff on a regular basis and not bring as much in}...
Why do I say all this? I want to encourage all of you, whether you are young or old, that having a home that is a haven means that you can sometimes fake it and find the lazy way of doing things. Who wants to spend all their time cleaning and making things look perfect? I don't. But, you probably all want things to look clean, uncluttered, and organized, right?
When it comes to keeping your home clean and organized, don't try to have it perfect and spend a ton of time cleaning. I mean, if you have a lot of time and love to do that, I suppose that's fine. But for most of us, just getting things done as easy as we can is what we can do, so do it! Take some short cute, fake it a little, and enjoy your time with your family!
What's one area that you could start make some short cuts? What will you do today to make things easier on yourself?

A long time ago when hippies roamed the earth I would get up, make coffee and start cleaning. I would have everything done by noon or earlier. Then I had kids. Then I had pets. Then I had parties. Add twenty years to that and what a large amount of clutter. So I took a deep breath when we moved and left 80% of my stuff behind. I focused on my nick knacks which I'm sure will be heirlooms someday lol And my photo albums. Now a days I do a chore as long as my back allows then I sit and wait for the next burst of energy:)

ReplyDeleteThere is definitely a grain of truth in the quotation! I have noticed that I have been following the manner of doing things by lazy people - it is so convenient!
ReplyDeleteI rather call myself, realistic instead of fake. lol When you come in my house, there is only a few things out. But, to be honest, I do straighten up every morning and every night purely out of habit. I call it the 5 minute clean sweep. But, near my filing cabinet, I have a bin called, "to be filed" when it gets full, I file the papers and not before. This could take months and that's OK.
