While I've been compensated by Walls Republic, opinions are 100% mine!
Our 16 year old son is getting a makeover on his room. The last time we painted his room he was 8, so it's long overdue! I suggested an "industrial look to him" and showed him pictures and he was all for it. Along with this look is the fun planked wall look and I wanted that for his room, but I did NOT want to do that much work. Thanks to wallpaper, I was able to fake it in under 2 hours!
You may remember that we made him a really unique, large desktop with laminate flooring, just a couple of weeks ago. So, now I was ready to work on his big red wall. Check out this before and after below! You're going to want to pin this post -- it's that good!

Yep! A bit dramatic, right? Can you believe I did this with wallpaper? It's so nice -- it feels {almost} and looks like real wood paneling. Wall Republic supplied me with the amazing wallpaper. They let me get some samples and then I chose from those!
I dramatically changed the room by using wallpaper instead of actual wood planks. And it's a whole lot easier than cutting, staining, and finding wood planks -- that's for sure! I'm all about making the process as easy as you can, so this made it that much easier.
If you were watching my Instagram over the last few months, you may have noticed that I was trying to decide on which wood "planking" wallpaper to choose! Well, I chose number 5 above. It's the Brown Timberland. The texture on these wallpapers is amazing.
Supplies and tools I used:
Now, I could give you a whole tutorial, step by step, picture by picture, of how I hung the wallpaper - but that would be boring! I wanted to show - literally - how easy it was to hang this wallpaper. It took me under two hours with my son helping me a little bit. So, I set my video camera in the corner and let it roll. Here is a time lapse {3 minute video} of how quickly and easily I got this wallpaper up -- and keep in mind that I've never hung wallpaper before - and couldn't find anywhere about hanging it horizontally:
But, the best part is what a dramatic way it was to update his room. I mean, seriously, the walls were RED! And now, this calm gray-colored wood planking! My son really loves it. Also, hanging the wallpaper horizontally actually took LESS wallpaper - yep! Only two rolls and I only needed to butt the seams in one spot towards the bottom of the wall - which is totally unnoticable!
I got this wallpaper from Wall Republic and their wallpapers are unique because they have "paste the wall" technology. So, I put the paste directly on the wall and hung it that way -- and it's SUPER easy! I'm ready to wallpaper again. I can't believe I finished it in under 2 hours - including pasting, cutting, etc.
Here is a close up of the wallpaper. If you touch it, you can feel the texture, too.
His room is getting closer to being done! Up next are his shelves we need to build and a little artwork above the bed. So, tell me, what do you think of the wallpaper and the planked wall look? Would you ever try this?

Oh my gorgeous, that looks amazing! I love the look. I've never wallpapered by myself, but I think I could handle this! :) Off to check it out.
ReplyDeleteLove it! That looks easier than painting since it takes quite a few coats to cover red. I'm tempted on the white for my family room.
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing!!! Awesome job. I can't wait to see the reveal.
ReplyDeleteInspired for sure! I have been dying to plank my master bedroom accent wall and get rid of the weirdo stencil I did :) Thanks for the kick in the bum !!
