Hide that Ugly Thing

Am I the only one who finds some technology offensively ugly? I mean, the cables, the cords, the antennas, the routers, the boxes? Uggh, it's just ugly!  In our family room, we have this router that has to be there. I know, it's something that just comes from technology so I try to embrace it and know it's here to stay.

Here is the problem. This router for our Wi-fi - probably most of you have one. Well, this just happens to be the very central spot in the house where it sits and needs to be, sitting out in the open so all of us {including me, since it's pretty important to my business} can access our wi-fi.

Here's my fix. I took the Ikea Kvarnvik cardboard-type storage box {it's a heavy, strong cardboard}.

So, I put it together {I had taken measurements with me to the store to know the size to buy},  and the only problem is you can't put the lid on it -- which I want to really hide it!

So, I took a utility knife and cut an opening enough so the router could slip through.

I can even use the box to store the remote controls - double duty! I like that!

And in the room, this is what it looks like! You can hardly see it!

And, if I put this cute "B" on top, you really can't see it!

  1. Wow, I really love this idea! I am about to up-cycle my coffee table so it hides the speaker and Wii, etc. Can't stand looking at black electronics!

    Thanks for the fab idea

  3. This is great! I was just looking at our router the other day thinking about what an eye sore it is. I think I'm going to need to make an Ikea trip soon!

  5. Hi Becky! What a neat solution - it really hides the router, and looks nice! I love the color of the box too. I think a trip to IKEA might be in my future...
