Our Cute Playhouse Updated for a Tween

Our backyard has been so much fun to have and use for all kinds of things - including entertaining of adults and kids. We recently got rid of our kids swingset, since they are now {almost} 16 and 11 1/2. They really didn't play on it anymore and we have a big RV parking pad there now! But, we DID keep the cute, little playhouse. I plan on keeping that around awhile. It's had a hard year, what with all the kids and people over that it sits under two large avocado trees that think it's fall in the summer and shed leaves all summer long...among other stuff. We never really finished the floor well when we made it over a few years ago. It shows!

Well, I came up with a {cheap} idea to keep the inside a little cleaner and found another cheap way to make the floors look amazing.

Nice, huh? We did a little work on that floor...it was not very expensive, either. These are little decking pieces you click together. They can be cut to fit the right size. One short afternoon and a few clicks later, we had a new floor in the cute playhouse - fit for an ever change tween, mind you!

But, you may be thinking you saw all those leaves inside and dirt and such. How does that solve the problem? Well, you see, all those leaves have been blowing in the windows because, other than some shutters, there isn't anything to keep stuff from blowing inside.

So, I had this brilliant idea come to me - okay, so maybe it's not so much brilliant as "duh?" kind of idea. What if we used some sort of screening on the little playhouse windows to block out all the leaves and debris that keeps blowing in? Mind you, we have very little rain here so that's not really an issue for us in there. And, what do I do when I have these crazy, brilliant ideas? Well, of course, I talk my husband into doing my idea.

But, he went above and beyond my idea and added mitered frames around each window too. He's a keeper! They are pet-proof screen that he stapled in then put the frames around it. So far, not more leaves are blowing in! And, it still let's the breeze in for the kids to play inside. My tweenage daughter is delighted that we've started sprucing up her playhouse so she and her friends can hang out.

  1. With that decking does the dirt just fall through the cracks?. Our Play house always has sand in the floor. This is a great idea!

  2. So cute! What do you mean by 'pet proof screen'? Our dog is always pawing through our screen door. Thanks!
