Tiling the Kitchen - an RV update

If you haven't figured it out by now, I love a good project. Our "new to us" RV has been a lot of fun for me and it's brought up a lot of ways for me to really get creative. Why in the world would I take a perfectly nice looking RV and make all these changes? Well, we are using our RV for more than just our vacations - it's become our guest house now, too. So, the first thing I worked on was the kitchen!

Here is what the kitchen looked like when we bought the RV just a couple of months ago. It's perfectly nice and simple. There isn't anything wrong with it - I just don't care for the splotchy "sponge paint" wallpaper and border wallpaper look. And, here is what it looks like now.

I don't plan on painting the wood. It's a lot of work - I've done it a lot - and because the RV can get really hot sitting around during the summer, I'm not really sure how it would handle that. Plus, the hubster said "nope" to that! So, tile was my answer!

The backsplash tiled makes a HUGE difference! I'm going to let you in on a secret - this isn't "real" tile! It's just self adhesive tile - perfect for an RV!

It's thin and has a self adhesive back on it. It's called Smart Tiles. {You can also find them HERE}. I randomly found it when I was on Facebook and saw a post from someone asking about how this works. Anyway, I started looking and realized it was the PERFECT solution. The tile that I chose is called Muretto Brina - a subway tile with accents of blue and silver in it.

Did you also notice the cute cart? It's the Bygel kitchen cart from Ikea - and only cost $29.99. I did a slight "hack" on it by spray painting all the metal on it to a dark bronze {Rustoleum hammered spray paint}. It helps give us a little more counterspace - which is rather lacking - and it moves around easily. It also makes a great nightstand for my daughter at night - who sleeps "on" the kitchen table, which turns into a bed.

So, the kitchen is on it's way. I've got more planned.  Lots more.

Here's another quick before and after so you can see the difference. OK, so what is your favorite part? Can you believe these tiles?
