It has been several months since we redesigned my teenaged daughter's bedroom for her birthday, but I wanted to share how lovely it turned out. It's difficult to get into her room and photograph these days, as she is now homeschooled and spends an enormous amount of time in her room, and more specifically on her bed! If you've been following me for any time now, you may remember that we re-did her bedroom a few years ago! She is now a full fledge teenager and has very specific design ideas and so for her 14th birthday, I told her we could redecorate her room. It has been FIVE years and she's a lot different at 14 then she was at 9 years old! Here is what her room looked like before:
And now, her new room reveal!
It's just beautiful, but sophisticated - mostly because she had a hand in everything that is now in there. The amazing thing is that we didn't repaint at all - well, we touched up a few spots that we had formerly had butterfly stencils - which are now gone! But, the room is the same color - Misty Gray from Sherwin Williams!
Her closet has grown up some, too! Here is her closet a few years ago:
And, her closet now:
Her tastes have certainly changed! No more turquoise and nothing frilly about it.
In her room she wanted clean lines, wood tones, copper and gold metals, geometric patterns, and black and white and gray!
She added in some fun things - like her love of Harry Potter - to show off her personality. A few things to note: I didn't pay for all of this! Her birthday gift was the new desk area and shelving all from Ikea. Most of the room were gifts for her birthday from friends and family, and we also sold lots of things on Facebook Buy/Sell Groups to purchase other decor for her room.
What do you think? It's very different than other rooms we've done, but I really like her taste! She's grown so much in what she likes and I think she did a great job choosing everything. If you want to know where we got everything, see below!

Instead of a bedskirt, we used a black fitted sheet, one size larger than her bed. It worked GREAT and looks so clean and classic!

ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the title of your post I had to read it. I myself am born and raised in Denmark and I have to tell you that a lot of times people claim "Scandinavian design" but it looks American to me. However, with regards to your daughter's bedroom, I can say that her nightstand is the same style as our desk, my parents have her rug and my kids have her desk. Haha. :)
ReplyDeleteThe room looks really nice, and I love that even though I live all the way in Denmark I would still be able to copy a lot of your ideas myself (I don't have to sigh and dream back to the days when I lived in Texas and had a Target readily available).
Our two kids (4 and 7) share a room and it can be hard to find the right style that isn't too girly or boyish, but still show off their personalities. And I'm sure it will only get more difficult as they get older and develope more of a personality. haha.
Anyways, thanks for the post and great job on the room.
