Last time I shared with you how I was getting that organizing itch again! Remember that? Well, I've been doing a LOT of fun projects in our home because I just love organizing and decorating! Our command center area had been working well for a while, but then it stopped really working and we needed to update it! I have the big reveal of what we did - and it's AMAZING!
Here is my command center area before we tackled an update. As you can see, it was okay but it stopped really working for us and started feeling more and more cluttered each day. Initially it was a great system, but my kids got older and we needed less of the system and more of just a place that was neat and organized. So, when Formica Corporation asked to help me update that area, I was very excited! And now, the command center area looks like THIS:
This area features three of Formica Corporation's new Formica® Writable Surfaces! It looks SO GOOD!! I used Formica® Surfaces in several areas of this command center spot!
First, notice the top of the dresser is now a Formica® Writable Surface in the ColorBook design. My daughter loves to color and draw so she has had fun with this spot. But, I can also use it to leave notes for the kids or my husband in the morning. Make a list of the things I need to grab at the store, etc.
It's super easy to take a tissue or cloth and wipe right off! This particular surface has a pattern on it that my daughter loves to draw on - you could change it up and put it on your wall instead of on a counter surface. There are so many great ways for it!
My absolute favorite part of our new command center area is the wall area! It's just gorgeous!! It's a chalkboard surface, a Formica® Writable Surface in Black Chalkable™ on one side and the other featuring a Formica® Writable Surface in Gray Chalkable™.
I hired a local artist to come in and really make the chalkboard beautiful and personalized for us! "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." I love that quote by William Morris!
I love things personalized, so I had our last name and year on the other writeable, chalkboard surface. This one has both chalk ink and chalk used to create this beautiful corner!
The surfaces are, honestly, like no other. My artist said that the Formica® Writable Surface was, by far, one of the most forgiving and smooth surfaces that she's worked on before - unlike most chalkboard surfaces that are bumpy and soak up the ink or chalk so quickly. It's also raised from the wall, not glued. I have a video below showing exactly how it was installed so you can see how it works.
The whole area is so much nicer and I've gotten rid of a lot of the clutter that kept accumulating on there - and kept it off for months!
I paired these two little plants to go with my chalkboard art - because I love succulents and cactus! Such a fun combo, too!
What a difference this little corner is now! It's got so much color and character! The top functions the way we need it to and the walls can be changed out with different artwork when I want it!

Love the updated command center! Although I'm not a huge fan of chalkboard surfaces, (I know, I'm the oddball! And yours look beautiful btw) I absolutely love the writable desktop surface. What a great idea! I wondered about the books on the desk. I have never seen anyone who set them up with the spine at the back...that's different. Why did you do it that way?
ReplyDeleteI also love the lamp! Where did you get it?
