Jealous of Organizing

When looking at Pinterest, social media, and other things going down online, I've noticed a big trend: Jealousy! Yes, it's the big "J" word!

Let's not be jealous of others organized homes. Learn to organize. Learn to purge. Learn to get rid of clutter :: OrganizingMadeFun.com

I witnessed it recently when one of my blog friend's was prominently featured in a magazine feature on their Facebook page. These jealous ladies were shredding her up, spreading gossip about things, stating false accusations and more. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I've seen this happen. It won't be the last.

Since most of you who follow my blog are ladies, I'm going to address you specifically. Ladies, we can not be tearing each other down. We need to build each other up. We need to support and encourage one another. We need to be happy that another female is successful and teaching others how to be organized.

I know some of you are jealous of those of us who are "naturally" organized. Listen, if you've read my blog for any time now, you may not realize that I'm not "naturally" organized. I am a bit scatter brained, spacey, blonde {what my dad used to give me a hard time about}, and a bit ADD. I wasn't this young girl who grew up being super neat {now called OCD/perfectionist} and organized, ask my Mom. She was shocked when she saw how neat and organized I kept my college dorm room. I realize now that the more stuff and clutter I had, the more distracted I got and wasn't able to focus on getting stuff done. Yes, my mom is very organized so I had a good teacher. But, I put those things I watched her do into place and learned how to be organized. I'm not one of these super OCD-type organized types. Come look in my house sometime. It's not perfect. It's lived in. Fake immaculate. Clutter free.

If you desire to be organized and are desperately unorganized, I'm here to tell you that it IS possible. Only YOU can change that. Only YOU can make it possible. Only YOU are standing in the way. Stop the excuses. Stop the insanity. If you choose to be the one who wants a new, fresh start in the new year, than do it! But, if you are tired of it now, do it NOW.

Where do you start? I hear this often. You start one, simple task at a time. Start with your schedule. Or start with your drawer. Or stop buying so much stuff and starting purging.

I hear from many of you that you have a tiny house or space and can't fit everything. I'm sorry, but you can't have everything. You must purge and get down to very little necessities. I have to purge on a weekly basis. I do. You can be jealous of the fact that another blogger lives in a big house. Or you can get upset that your house is so small. I see this a lot - comments on other bloggers sites or FB saying things like "well, if MY pantry was that big, I could be organized too". That's just the thing, we can't all have the same sized things. It's never going to be fair. You must learn to work with what you have.

Let's all learn to be content with the size house or closet or lack of space we have...and learn to organize it, rid the clutter or the stuff we need to fit. I have hundreds of ideas to help inspire you, but you have to look them up, HERE. I have help for your clutter, HERE. Are you ready to stop being jealous and start doing something? Please share!

  1. Oops..tried leaving a comment, but wasn't signed in yet. I just loved this post! I struggle a lot with envy and comparing myself to others...people whose homes I admire online, and friends whose homes I wish I had. Thanks for sharing today!

  2. I'm guilty of being hard on myself for not maintaining a clutter free home environment. I have so many stories related to this life time struggle and is perhaps why I went into the interior design business.

    1. We all struggle in some way, don't we? If it's important, we can do it! It takes a little at a time! Becky B.

  3. Thanks for speaking out on a bad habit that folks are indulging in far too much. I've noticed this last year how quickly any conversation will veer into 'hissy' from what had been nice only moments before. And how everyone seems to jump onto the hissy bandwagon when before they had been quiet. Such a change from my great grandmother's admonition of "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." I personally am going to work harder on edifying people's achievements more. This post has been a great reminder.

  4. I agree!! I appreciate the advise given in these blogs, it keeps me encouraged. My house is not large, 1600 sqft. That's not big, and it doesn't have much in the way of closet space so storage is a real issue! I use almost every idea I find, at least the ones that help eliminate "visual clutter". It helps me find peace in the sanctuary I call home.

  5. It takes such courage to share your home, your life, your heart with the outside world. I hate that people can so easily overlook that and tear someone else apart. Especially when it's plain to see that the reason most bloggers share so much is a desire to teach, inspire, encourage and help others. Someone else's success does not in any way hinder mine. That's all on me.

  6. I found your blog recently and the BEST organizing tip is to put your t-shirts on their side (like file folders) so you can see them all right away. I was moving when I found that tip, so I unpacked and set it up and I love it! One funny thing, I don't organize by color, I put the ones just washed in the back and try to pick from the front so everything gets worn. I have noticed that I was wearing the same shirts over and over! Hugs to you and thanks for sharing!!

  7. I love this. This is so true. For a long time, I thought it was pointless for me to even try to make my home attractive. (The organizing part I've got, the decorating, not so much!) But I *can* work with what I've got. And I can tackle one project at a time. This is actually why I started my blog; I wanted to show that you can have a nice space without spending a ton of money. Just cleaning out and reorganizing can make a huge difference!

  8. Every now and then I just have to stop away from Pinterest - it goes from crafty inspiring to envy inspiring real quick. Then I just turn off my computer and go DO something. The internet is sneaky like that! It encourages comparison, the thief of joy.

  9. Well said Becky! It's so easy to be jealous instead of content. I always thought I needed a bigger home but I'm so glad I realized I really just needed less stuff. Being content has helped me not be jealous of all the "Pinterest perfect pantries" and other beautifully organized things I see online (most of the time anyway!). Thanks for this reminder. Sharing it so others can be reminded too. And yay that your comments are back :)

  10. This is an excellent message to send out in the world. As women, it is my hope that we can support and be compassionate to one another across the board. I just had an experience while starting a new job where other women where not kind or welcoming. I also ran into a jealousy issue over pay and benefits. We can all have abundance, joy and a beautiful, peaceful place to call our own. Let us start today. Is there a spiritual sister you can be happy for today ?
