Have you seen the latest craze on HGTV and other channels? It's Tiny Houses - and it's fascinating! My daughter and I watch these shows weekly and can't believe how people can live in such teeny, tiny square footage! Can you? So, I've come up with some of my favorites and why we can all relish in the tiny-ness that is so fascinating!
I've shared a few small spaces with you before from friends of mine that have done an amazing job of maximizing their "tiny" houses - like the triple bunk bed and the tiny house where my friend fit all her belongings into a super small space, and even my other friend in her small apartment with her three kids. Why do I love tiny houses?
One of my main reasons for loving tiny houses is that they make the most of every inch of that home. I mean, drawers in the stairs? Genius!
Having a tiny space to live in forces you to get creative with the very little space you have. Finding ways to store things, making it livable and still pretty, and keeping it functional are all important in a tiny house.
Tiny house equals small bills! To heat a tiny house is small, to light the tiny house is small, the water amount is small, to build the house is small. Everything costs much less. I think a lot of people are fed up with the high cost of housing and turning to a simple, low cost lifestyle! It's freeing!
If the earth is important to you, you'll love the low impact it has having a tiny house - from the supplies to the cost of heating it, the tiny house has low impact.
It forces you to learn to live with the absolute necessities only and declutter constantly {something we should ALL be doing daily}. If it doesn't fit, it doesn't come inside!
Imagine how freeing it is to have little to no mortgage within a year of purchasing your home? That frees you up to travel all over, do other things, not have the burden of that over you -- even to have a job that doesn't have to be full time or something you're a slave to! So freeing!
Having a tiny house means you have less to CLEAN!! Oh my goodness, can you imagine? Send the kids outside as much as possible and have less to clean!
Ok, so I know it's not ideal for everyone to have a tiny house. It's just such a wonderful idea. I think if I were a newlywed again, I'd definitely consider having a tiny house! It may not fit a very big family, but it would sure be a wise way to make use of space. It would force kids outside more and everyone to get along better when weather isn't cooperative! It's a great way to have a guest house. We "live" tiny when we go camping in our RV and the four of us live in this tiny home for a week. It's not easy, but we make it work and it's fun. Full time living would be a little more challenging, not gonna lie! What do you think? Are you obsessed with tiny houses?

Different strokes for different folks! If you've ever lived in a single-wide mobile home, you don't want to live "tiny" ever again! I love my "big" home and don't want to go 'tiny' ever again!!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I'm obsessed with tiny houses. But just to look at. I don't think we could ever, ever live in one. But so many are so dang cute!
ReplyDeletei would love to do a tiny house. We currently do not have a home of our own, and are having difficulty finding something to rent....we are considering an rv maybe....i would do a tiny house if i could find a place to put one...absolutely!

ReplyDeleteI agree! So many great reasons to live in a tiny house. Lower bills, less to clean, creative storage are all great reasons to do it. Not convinced I could though. As much as I love the idea, I am like you, maybe if we were just starting out.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I keep talking about what we will do when our youngest leaves home. Who knows, maybe that will be the perfect time to make the switch.
I love looking at tiny houses. They're so fun! And lots of great ideas that you can put to use in our own 1400 sqft home. I guess it doesn't matter how big your house is, you'll always need better ways to keep stuff organized (unless you have a McMansion). As much as I think I'd like the challenge of a tiny house, hubby and I enjoy space a little too much, I think. And we have hobbies that take up a fair bit of room. XD Oh well. Still fun to read about!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I developed a fascination for tiny houses also after watching the North American series, and we are now watching Tiny Houses Australia (we are Australian). We moved from a large 4 bedroom, double garage, lots of storage home to a compact (understatement) 3 bedroom home (nicknamed "the shoebox"). It has forced me to declutter, and really think about what we need, even parting with some things I love, because they don't really earn their floor space!
ReplyDeleteI love tiny houses. Mostly because I hate cleaning and think it would be nice to have less to clean. Ha! It also helps me be happy with the space I have. I was pretty obsessed with moving into a bigger home not too long ago but when I started falling in love with tiny houses my home started to feel huge (7people-1000sq ft). Now that there are 7 of us and I homeschool I realize tiny houses might not work for us right now. Maybe someday though! I do look constantly for ways to better use our space now! Thankfully my husband is a builder and can make me unlimited bookshelves and drawers!
