Fashion Advice from an Organizing Blogger

One of my favorite hobbies, other than organizing is decorating, is fashion. Well, honestly, I haven't actually READ a fashion magazine in years {I can't stand all the yuck in there} but I've turned to my practical and modest "searches" on Pinterest time and time again to find cute and modest and fashionable outfits for this {almost} 44 year old girl! So, I'm sharing my "Fashion 101" through an organizer's eyes! I'll show you my favorite brands and where I get them for the best prices, too, and how I can keep my closet in shape, too! {This is NOT a sponsored post, just sharing my love of shopping and clothing}.

I'm showing you outfits and where I got them, why I wear them, and how I save on purchases - AND how I can stay current. To me, staying current but fashionable with hair and clothing not only makes me feel better, but I feel younger {yet age appropriate} and my hubby sure doesn't mind, either!

I have a hashtag on Instagram - #OMFootd {Organizing Made Fun outfit of the day}. Also, few things I'm trying to do to stay as young looking/age appropriate as possible {the above picture is NOT filtered or touched up, just natural lighting}:

  • I have started oil pulling to help my teeth look whiter. Oil what? I know, it sounds crazy but trust me, it works. I use fractionated coconut oil and "pull" the oil through my teeth when I wake up each morning for 5-10 minutes. It's recommended to do 20 minutes but I just can't go that long. I don't do it everyday, but it's really brightened up my teeth.
  • I use an oil blend each morning around my eyes and on my forehead and nose made up of frankincense, sandalwood, lavender, myrrh, helichrysum, and rose called anti-aging blend and it is helping me with shrinking my large pores and help me look more youthful.
  • I use Bare Minerals make up nearly everyday.
  • I only shampoo my hair three times a week with all non-toxic, essential oil shampoo and it's gotten so long this year!
  • I haven't colored my hair in almost ten years! And I've embraced my gray stripe {which started when I was pregnant at 28}.
  • I could stand to lose 15 pounds and I'm working on it. My schedule has been extremely demanding lately, but I am eating as much organic, healthy non-processed food as possible! I have NOT been "blessed" with a large chest but have always had very muscular calves and tend to gain muscle easily {maybe not as much anymore!}. So, I dress in a way that is as flattering to my figure as possible. I say this to encourage you...I'm not perfect but I work with the positive to distract from the negative.

I'm going to share my outfits and where I got the pieces. Feel free to critique or not {I'm a blogger and have heard it all}. I also want to tell you that I'm definitely a little bit "distracted" because I get tired of stuff. I'm happy to let things go that I've had for a couple of years and give to someone else. But, I also have a BIG rule of "one in one out". I critically look at my clothes in my closet monthly and ask myself

  • Do I really love this?
  • Is it comfortable?
  • Is it too big or too small?
  • When was the last time I wore this?
  • Does someone else need this more than I do?

This one I wore recently, inspired by Pinterest. I got some critique about wearing the belt and it looking weird but I like it and it was cute and comfy for what I needed it for:

  • Yellow, cardigan sweater from TJ Maxx
  • Blue, sleeveless top by CAbi from Thred Up
  • Belt from Target
  • Pants by CAbi
  • Camisole from ModBod.com

Here I'm wearing a "wear at home" outfit but one that I could run out and pick up kids or go to the store and feel comfy in.

  • CAbi tunic from ThredUp
  • CAbi jeggings
  • Wide calf boots from Payless Shoe Source
  • Cardigan from Ann Taylor Outlets

Everyday is a day to dress nice - and I try to even though I work from home.

Obviously I've gotten a lot of mileage out of my brown boots this short, winter season. Honestly, I try to do what I can to cover up my large calves as much as possible and I love being able to wear boots and I like leggings and pants, too. Summer brings out the maxi dresses for me mostly.

As you can see my favorite brands are:

  • CAbi
  • Banana Republic
  • Ann Taylor
  • Loft
I like these brands because they are good quality and fit me well, but I don't like paying for the high price they can come at so I shop the outlets for each or I shop at ThredUp online. I know how they fit me so it makes shopping for them easier. I get most of my inspiration from Pinterest using the clothes I already have in my closet. I buy pieces that I love and think are fun and pretty, but can still go with what I have in my closet. So, the creative part is for me to make up outfits based on what I have in there. My Style and Fashion Board on Pinterest is FULL of ideas!

Ok, your turn...are you using what you have in your closet to your advantage? Do you have clothes in there that you really don't love or can't wear anymore? What are you going to do about it today?

  1. Do you find you have an excess collection of jewellery to go with so many different outfits? Or have you been able to find a few necklaces that go with anything?

  6. I'm going to have to look into the oil pulling...I'm intrigued! I love Loft...it's probably my absolute favorite store. You're right...the clothes last forever and they just fit so well. I've only recently discovered Thredup. Glad to know you like it. Love your fashion posts!!!

  7. Also, I've never heard of CAbi, but I looked them up after seeing that several of your items are that brand. Can you tell me a little more about them? Interested to hear what you love about them and see if you'd recommend having a show. Could be fun...
