Time for an Update: Teen Boy Room

As with everything in this house, after a few years I'm ready to redo a room again. Maybe it's the ADD in me or maybe I just love to change things up. Nonetheless, I've noticed my son's room is ready for an update. The last time I did something in there, he was in elementary school and he's turning 16 in a few weeks and I'd like to give him a more updated, grown up look in there.

When I asked him if he'd like that, he was very happy to have an update. I also showed him my ideas, and he was totally on board - honestly, he isn't picky and is happy with most anything I choose! Also, his favorite color used to be RED so we painted a bright red accent wall in his room and the other walls were gray. Well, now RED is a problem since his high school colors are blue and his favorite football team is also blue. So, we need to get rid of that wall color! I have ideas -- ooh, I have ideas!! Here is the mood board I've created and I'll give you a break down of my plan.

First, the red wall is going to get a complete makeover with wallpaper. YES, wallpaper in a boys room!! This is the coolest wallpaper I've ever seen. These, above, were the choices I was trying to make between the wallpapers. We're going to do a wood planking look in his room and it's going to be amazing!

That's the first projects! The next project is to make him a new desk. His old desk I did five years ago! So, I'm actually going to build him a desktop from some hardwood flooring and then get him some of the same Alex series drawers that I have in my office, but in gray. Very masculine!

The last project - aside from cleaning out and getting rid of a few pieces of furniture - is to build him bookshelves that are made from "reclaimed" {looking} wood and some galvanized piping, similar to above.

I also found some great prints that go with his love of golf but give his room and industrial look and even give some pops of blue!

So, here is the whole mood board I've created to give you an idea what what we're using and how it all goes together. What do you think? I suppose my sweet teen boy is going to enjoy his new look soon!

  1. Hi, while I love the ideas you are going for his room. It would also help the readers to give us an idea of the budget for re-doing his room.
