Contain Yourself

I found a great article from The Container Store (my personal favorite store!) about managing your household.  It's got great tips and ideas, which include containers from their store too - but you can still use the ideas to inspire you!

Vacation from projects....

So, my sweet hubby and I had a half vacation, half business trip recently to Oregon!  It's so beautiful up there!  I must say, one of my favorite places to be...especially since the weather was so nice.

Getting Ready for School - part 4 (Homework time)

Part of getting ready for school is setting up an area for your kids to do their homework and making the supplies available.  Here is a great picture that one of my readers sent me of how she organized her boys' homework and school supplies.  Isn't that great?

Serving One Another

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."  John 13:34-35

In the middle of....several ongoing projects!

I'd love to show you all kinds of pictures of our kitchen being totally done!  However, progress is going slowly.  My hubby is quite a busy man and every spare minute of his time (which is very little) he is doing something to make progress.  Joint compound can only dry so fast!  Here is a look at what my kitchen has sitting in it for the last four weeks!

Getting Ready for School - Part 3 (Getting out the door and Carpooling)

OK...so by now you've gotten your kids (and maybe yourself)  ready to start the school year. There are always ways to save time by organizing yourself before hand.  Some obvious, or not so obvious ideas are:

Another great idea

Do you have any of those clear organizing bins around your house?  They are great, but you can see all your junk in them!  Here is a great idea from a blog called "Oh, Brooke" that I saw:

She just took paper scraps of scrap booking paper and cut them in half and double-stick tape inside.  I would only add one thing...yep, a label!  You could make a really pretty label on the computer and place inside the drawer centered in front of the paper.  Where could you do this idea?

Getting Ready for School (part 1)

For the month of August, we'll talk about getting ready for school.  But, even if you don't go back to school or have a child in school...there is plenty to plan and get yourself ready for!   For instance, it's time to look over your schedule for the fall - whether it involves school or your own personal schedule.

Sit down with your schedule.  If you have a baby, it's always a good chance to figure out whether or not you want to do any classes with him/her, or you have too many classes, or they have a napping schedule, etc.  But, I'd suggest you go back and look at  THIS blog from a few months ago about what to do with your kids schedules.

One of the things I have done to stay organized is to assign each day of the week (weekdays) to have a particular thing I do.  For instance, Mondays are the day I run errands.  Tuesdays are my cleaning day.  Wednesdays (starting in the fall), I have my Bible Study in the morning and I teach piano lesson in the afternoon....etc.  When my kids were babies, I could not spend a whole day cleaning!  I did a little bit each day - I only spent 15 minutes a day with one cleaning chore each day (Mondays, vacuuming; Tuesdays, dusting; etc.).  I showed you my summer schedule back in June.

It's a great idea to sit down and work on this before school start.  Figure out what you want your kids to do before you leave for school - any chores, making beds, eating breakfast (of course) and getting stuff ready.  I always have practice runs at least three or four days before we start school - making them get up, make their beds, get dressed, eat, and do all their assigned morning tasks.  It gives me and the kids an idea of whether or not we're back in the routine to get going quickly enough each morning!

What are you starting to do to get ready for school?

Organizing Meals for a friend in need

One super important thing we needed to do for one another is to take care of each other!  I love how great our church is at bringing meals and helping others when needed.  One great website I have recently discovered is Take Them a Meal where it makes organizing a meal for someone VERY easy.  In the past, I would organize meals for a friend by sending out emails and dates and going back and forth between everyone trying to pick dates.  Then, I'd send out another email to remind them, etc.  Well, the website Take them a Meal is so easy because it takes them directly to where you set up the days and then your friends can sign up directly for a specific day, they can even put what they will bring, then the website sends them an automatic email reminder to bring their meal.  You can even put what not to bring or any other details about the meal in there!  A super great website that I highly recommend!
